Iris
This work references one of the many connotations of the word iris, in this case the pigmented annular structure of the eye that surrounds the dark void known as the pupil. The function of which is to regulate the amount of light that enters the eye and reaches the retina enabling the viewer to see comfortably. This regulation of pupil size is not only controlled by light levels, but also as a response to neurological and emotional factors mediated by the autonomic nervous system.
